The EMPIR Metrology for Hydrogen Vehicles project is driving the next major step in Europe’s transition to clean, hydrogen‑powered transport, supported by strong backing from hydrogen vehicle developers, refuelling station operators, gas producers and standardisation bodies. As Europe rapidly builds its hydrogen infrastructure, the sector faces a key challenge: legislation already sets strict measurement requirements for hydrogen refuelling, but the necessary methods and standards do not yet exist. This project is the first large‑scale initiative dedicated to closing that gap, developing the measurement science needed to ensure accurate, reliable and compliant hydrogen refuelling across the continent, and helping accelerate the safe, confident adoption of hydrogen vehicles.
